Grease Lightning

The director for Grease gave me a picture of a 58 Cadillac with the Grease logo written on the side and said,"This is what I want the car to look like, plus it should have stripper poles on the trunk and hood." To which I replied, "Ok, and how about we make the logo light up like neon?"

The car was 16' long, had shop-made zero throw casters, and 4 pneumatic cylinders to brake the unit. The front end was carved polystyrene.

Automation

I built this turntable drive out of parts I had laying around the shop. The only thing purchased was the gear reducer and the motor drive. It used a 1 1/2 hp three phase motor and 40:1 gear reducer. The movement was controlled by momentary switches wired to the AC motor drive.

In 2007 I received a small grant to purchase automation equipment for the theatre. I purchased some equipment from Creative Connors. They sell plug-and-play theatrical automation equipment as well as components to integrate with your existing equipment. I didn't have the funds to purchase a complete system from them, so I had to build the winches and purchase the motor drives separately.
